Following the historic announcement by the Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 26 August 2021, Government College of Engineering, Erode was formally transitioned from the Transport Department to the Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The college functions under the direct administrative, academic, and financial oversight of the Director of Technical Education (DoTE), Chennai. This transition has accelerated infrastructural upgrades, state-of-the-art laboratory enhancements, and faculty development schemes across all engineering disciplines.

GCE Erode functions as the Zonal Headquarters for Zone-XI of Anna University, Chennai. The Zonal Centre coordinates:

• Conduct of End-Semester Theory and Practical Examinations across all affiliated engineering institutions in Erode, Namakkal, Tiruppur, and Salem districts.
• Central Valuation and Result Processing Coordination for Zone-XI.
• Monitoring academic compliance, curriculum delivery, and university regulations.
• Coordination of Anna University Zonal Sports, Cultural, and Youth Festival tournaments.
